Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Heber Valley Chamber State of the Valley meeting. I enjoy going to this meeting each year because it’s a quick snapshot of what is going on in our community and what we can expect in the upcoming year. You can view the recap here, or read on for more information and infographics that were shared.

May Celeste Johnson of Midway City first spoke about what is going in Midway City. She discussed that they are currently updating their General Plan and that they are pretty proud of it. She discussed the Midway Business Alliance and encouraged all business owners to get involved. She talked about the plans to increase the use of the town square and mentioned that the current population of 6000 people becomes 80,000 on Swiss Days Weekend and they handle it in stride. She also spoke about the 300 acres that have been saved for open space after a 5 million dollar bond. She is excited about the South Center St Trail Development Project.

Next up we have Heidi Franco that mayor for Heber City speak about everything that is going on within the city. She had a lot of slides and lot of information.

It was pretty interesting to look at the number of remote workers here in Heber City. Our Median Income per household has increased, as well as the population which Mayor Franco estimates over 18,000 now.

Our General Fund has increased as have our property and sales tax. The city debt comes mostly from the new sewer/water project going on in downtown.

If you aren’t involved and watching the Envision Heber website. Go right now and check it out. It’s full of great information and opportunities for you to make your voice heard. www.envisionheber.com.

The number of building inspections doubled over LY speaking to our enormous growth in the city.

Two new roads are currently under construction and will be completed (Daniels Connector) and started (Eastern Bypass) this year.

We have a lot of great businesses here in Heber. Mayor Franco said she is particularly interested in paying attention to the number of short term rentals. What that says to me is if you are interested in having a short term rental, now may be the time to apply for the license.

Huge focus is being placed on our Parks, Trails and Open space and thanks to the recently approved RAP task there will be more and exciting things to come.

The county is aware that there is an affordable housing issue. They are working on options for local essential workers and are open to discussion with other businesses at their council meetings to come up with ideas for other employees as well.

Lastly we heard from Mark Nelson all about Wasatch County. He discussed plans to add additional trails up Provo Canyon so we will have a trail connector added from Vivian Park To Heber City. He also discussed plans to pave the Deer Creek trail and add in a new additional trail there to keep the equestrian option.

He would love to have involvement in the public hearings that will be held at the End of April. He discussed the light ordinance that the county is currently working on. He said that will be finished and in place prior to looking at any applications for the LDS Temple. The Wasatch County Fire House is slowly moving to the new location and hoping to break ground this year. They are focused on trails and open space and hoping to make some major decisions this year and would like to have everyone involved!

Heber Valley is a great place to live and work. I am thankful that we have the opportunity to learn from our leaders and have the opportunity to have our voices heard. Get Involved and help make good decisions for our future community.
