We have a great visit today and meeting with Utah Radon Services. They shared with us a wealth of knowledge and while they are the experts and not me, I wanted to share a few things that I learned. Did you know….
-Radon Comes from Uranium under the ground
-The only homes at low risk or radon are, houseboats, treehouses, and high rise buildings.
-Radon causes lung cancer: Lung cancer is the #1 one cancer killer and kills 21,000 Americans Every year. Radon is responsible for at least 14% of those cases.
-That means radon kills more than drunk drivers kill
-The hard line is 4 pCi/L of radon. That equates to 200 chest xrays of radiation or smoking 8 cigarettes a day.
-10 pCi/L is a pack of cigarettes a day.
-Utah Radon Systems said that 90% of the homes they have tested in Wasatch County are above the safe level and average about 1.5 packs of cigarettes a day.
